Stillness at the Edge of the Tide – Minehead

A red bicycle rests,
its wheels no longer spinning,
but still whispering tales of wind and salt,
of laughter rolling like gulls on the breeze.

Each spoke, a line from a forgotten summer.
Each chip in the paint, a memory held fast.

Behind it, the harbour hums—a lullaby of ropes creaking,
of boats nudging one another like old friends in conversation.
The bunting flutters—red, white, blue—
as if celebrating nothing, or everything.

This is a moment untouched by time.
Here, among the swaying masts and idle clouds,
the world slows, sighs,
and leans gently into the warmth of the day.

Image description

A charming coastal scene captured at Minehead Harbour on a pleasant spring or summer’s day. In the foreground, a vintage-style red bicycle leans against a weathered metal railing, its presence evoking nostalgia and quiet contemplation. Above it, festive red, white, and blue bunting dances in the sea breeze. The calm harbour water glistens under soft light, reflecting moored sailboats and small vessels. In the distance, soft hills and the silhouette of a large tented structure rise against a serene, cloud-brushed sky. The overall mood is peaceful, leisurely, and timeless.
